LL802 - Media Converters for Gigabit & Fast Ethernet/ATM/Serial Data

Description

The LL802 media converter range is designed to adapt conventional copper data networks to optical fibre.

These converters support twisted pair RJ-45 connectors for the copper system and flat polished duplex SC/PC fibre optic connectors for the optical network. This facilitates the use of conventional or legacy switching and routing equipment with 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, or 1000 Mbps copper interfaces and converts these at minimum cost to fibre optic trunk lines.

The units are available for multimode fibres or for single mode fibres. Very long distances are possible if the media converters are operated in full duplex mode. Collision domain limitations no longer apply for full duplex fibre links between ethernet switches. Using single mode fibres, distances of 20, 30, 50 km or more are readily achievable.

ATM media converters and serial data media converters are also available in the same housing style.

The standard units use two fibres, one to send data and one to receive data. Options are available for bi-directional operation over one single mode fibre core, using 1550 nm in one direction and 1310 nm in the other.

Features

  • Extends full duplex ethernet, fast ethernet, or Gigabit ethernet links from copper to fibre.

  • Supports ST, duplex SC/PC, MT-RJ and LC fibre connectors on most models.

  • IEEE 802.3 standards compliant.

  • Compatible with 10BaseFL, 100BaseFx or 1000BaseSx/Lx fibre optic interface ports from other compliant vendors.

  • Options for ATM links (STM1/OCM3 or STM4/OC12) and RS232/422/485 serial data links in the same housing.

  • Single mode fibre converters can operate in full duplex mode on 20, 30 or 50 km fibre, with options up to 100 km.

  • Clear indicator LEDs for link status and data activity for both the copper and the fibre interface.

  • Use in stand-alone mode with external plug-pack power supply, or combine multiple units in an optional RCC-802 subrack (19") for 4, 8 or 12 converters.
